What Is the Best Age to Start College Soccer Recruitment?

When UK players should start planning for US university football — and why an early assessment saves time later.

Families often ask when they should start. The short answer: earlier than you think, but it is rarely too late.

A typical UK timeline

  • Year 10–11 (age 14–16): get assessed, focus on GCSEs and start building footage.
  • Year 12 (age 16–17): build a profile, register for eligibility and begin coach contact.
  • Year 13 (age 17–18): visits, offers, admissions and visa preparation.
  • Post-school or gap year: still very possible, especially for NAIA and junior college routes.

Why assess early?

An early assessment shows which grades, tests and footage you need while there is still time to act. Players who start late often discover avoidable gaps in core subjects or footage when deadlines are close.

Whatever your age, a Stride USA assessment tells you what is realistic now and what to prioritise next.
