Your highlight video is your single most important recruiting asset, because it is the one thing every coach will judge before deciding whether to watch you live. It does not need to be cinematic — it needs to be clear, short and honest.
Lead with your best
Coaches decide within the first few clips whether to keep watching. Put your strongest actions first, not in chronological order. If the first thirty seconds do not hold them, the rest will not either.
What makes a clip useful
- Keep it three to five minutes — long enough to show range, short enough to finish.
- Mark yourself clearly at the start of each clip so the coach can find you instantly.
- Show full sequences, not just the finish — build-up, decision-making and effort matter.
- Include game footage; skills tape alone rarely convinves a coach of competitive level.

Skip heavy music, slow motion and flashy edits. Most coaches watch on mute, on a phone, between sessions. A clean, well-lit, tightly clipped video beats a polished production that hides your actual level.
Honest footage protects you. Overselling with cherry-picked clips gets a coach to a game — and then disappoints them. Under-promising and over-delivering is how you build a coach's trust.
